Which Handlebars do you prefer Straight or Low?

Post by bass-o-matic » Thu Feb 14, 2008 11:06 am

Which type of Handlebars do you prefer and why?

My 1964 came with the low rise bars but now I'm thinking of switching back to the straights. Has anyone had experience with both?

Thanks!

Handlebars on a Superhawk

Post by dickinraleigh » Thu Feb 14, 2008 11:39 am

Had both on a 1967. What I really likes was a set of CL77 handlebars. The stock bars required to much forward lean. I did have to buy longer cables.
The CB77 was a nice bike. It was built stronger than the CB350 twin. The 350 has a nicer look and fit but vibrated terrible at 60 mph. The neatest CB77 I owned had a 300 dream engine in it. I can still visualize the first 300 dream I saw. Ray, from up the street, had a new one. And me I had a Sears Sabre 50cc POS. Bought a CB77 as soon as I could. Back then a 305 was considered a BIG bike.

my 1963 cb77 was bought used in 1965 and it had the short rise bars on it. that's the way it stayed for years until i restored it using the original flat bars it required. personally, i like the looks and comfort ride of the short rise vs the flat bars- but that's me.

My 66' CB72 had some (what I would call) standard type bars (not low ones, by any means). I tried a set of "cli-ons" back when I had THAT one and they just weren't for me. I've got a set of low bars that I'm going to try on my 63' CB77 that I'm gathering parts (ever so slowly) for.

Here's an action picture of my 66' CB72 back in 68' (few changes on the bike)

Low or Flat bars - What do you prefer?

For me,you just gotta have the broomstick.Sure, might be slightly less comfortable, but they just give the Superhawk "the look". But, Honda changed them for a reason. My bike isn't a long distant crusier,we've got other bikes for that nowdays.... Dan
