CB72 Speedometer & TachoCB72 Speedometer & TachoHi all, I'm new to this forum and have just (through a series of fortunate events) re-purchased a 1967 CB72 I owned in the late 70s. Its been fully restored but the Speedo/tacho isn't the one that was in the bike previously. My recollection was both needles moved clockwise but it now has a clockwise / anticlockwise head. If anyone is familiar with these variants, can I ask:
1. When did the head change from the clock-wise, anti-clockwise arrangement to the clockwise/clockwise as in the original CB450? 2. Does this also mean that the front wheel speedo drive is also different? Any help greatly appreciated - and of course if anyone has a clockwise/clockwise head for sale, I'd be really interested! Speedometer changeSpeedometer changed at Engine number CB77E 1001731 to the CB450 style instrument where both needles moved clockwise.
The speedometer drive gearbox changed at the same time. I'd guess that sometime after you parted with the bike the speedo or tacho failed and was replaced with the (much more common) earlier type. If your speedo works OK you must also have the earlier drive gearbox fitted. If you find the correct late model tacho/speedo you'll definitely need the later drive gearbox to go with it. Easy to overlook but the speedometer CABLE actually changed at the same time to one wound in the opposite direction! Running the speedometer with the wrong cable can lead to problems with erratic readings.
Re: Speedometer changeAs you say you have a CB72 the speedo box changed at CB72F-1003907 and so did the cable and speedo. .................lm
