Tuning Carburetors IndividuallyTuning Carburetors IndividuallyGood morning Forum!
Thanks to several coaching sessions with Loud Mouse (thank you for your time sir!) I finally have my '67 CL77 running and idling. I am now trying to fine-tune the carburetors by "ear". I have read about pulling the spark plug wires one at a time to adjust the RPM's individually. Is this a good or bad idea? Thanks as always! Mrburnn
Re: Tuning Carburetors Individually<<<<adjust the RPM's individually>>>> Don't do it!
Some years back at a VJMC meet at Fort Knox a feller bought a bike from a member. The engine started loosing power as we rode so we stopped and a member offered to tune the carbs . CB350 HONDA He removed a plug and started the engine then he adjusted the carb to idle for the cylinder that was running. That done he did the same for the other side. I told Tom Lang "YA GOT TO WATCH THIS"! Now with both plugs installed and each carb adjusted to IDLE THE ENGINE he started the engine. Do I need to tell you what the RPM was when both carbs were set his way???????????????. The carbs were adjusted correctly by another member and we rode off. But the engine quit completely and we trailer'ed the bike to the hotel. I found after market points with nylon rather than phenolic separators and both were melted and shorted the points to ground. We were able to find a couple of OLD points and I swapped the separators and the engine ran for the rest of the meet. .....................lm
