You may have to find a parts speedo to get a spring.

i just went through this. My 66 Dream's speedo, came to me with a chewed up first speedo gear, the one that reads tenths. It was the only one "spinning" while in motion. I opened mine up and I was hoping after a good clean up, it would work. I tested everything with a left over piece of cable and my drill in reverse before buttoning everything up and it still didn't work. I am used to car forums, where you post a question and with in hours you have 10 replies with tons of pictures, here is different... Good or bad, it is what it is.
The 160's speedometer looked the same to me on line, I asked a question about direct fitting and got two different answers. I took a shot in the dark and purchased one from a 1966 CA72. Of course it did not fit... case is smaller and the bottom fitting for the speedo cable is also different. But what fit, was the gear set. The shaft the gears ride on, will not fit, as the opening in the case that houses the shaft is too small in the 305. I ended up using my own shaft and just swapped the gear set. The spring appear to be the same. The spring stop, is removable on the 305, fixed (part of the case) on the 160 The 305 needle is shorter and fatter than the 160. I have the left over parts from the 160, you are more than welcomed to have. Where are you located at?
