Here are Greg's pictures, delivered via Flickr.

The full album is here https://www.flickr.com/photos/63154743@N00/?

This looks like it got pretty warm....

Image

Starter sprocket bush was seized to the shaft but had an independent oil supply from the bearing..

Image

Bearing chiseled(?) apart....

Image

Which failed first, the oil supply or the bearing cage?

Image

Oil feed clear and locating peg in place. Oil hole position is correct for roller bearing.

Hi Greg, is it possible that the bearing locating pin has not held the bearing in its correct position in relation to the oil supply hole? Then the bearing rotated a little on engine startup and blocked the oil supply. The locating pin looks like a small diameter version and the bearing locating hole looks large. Also the pin looks low in the case. Maybe the pictures are distorting it. Never seen anything like that before though.
Good luck with it.
Brian.

Hi again Greg, take a look at the picture marked "looks like this got pretty warm". Are my old tired eyes deceiving me or is the pin locating hole in the bearing rotated from its 12 O'Clock position?

Honda Parts Bulletin 253, dated November 8, 1967 replaced bearing 13411-268-010 and the 7x5x12 knock pin 90701-259-010 with new bearing 13411-268-020 and new 7x12 knock pin 90705-259-020. If the new bearing was used with the old knock pin, it could very well be the oil flow problem.
