1966 CA77 gas tank removal1966 CA77 gas tank removalGreetings all. I'm a new member to the group. I recently acquired my father's 1966 Honda CA77 Dream. Remembering back on how much he liked the bike I have decided to restore her. Last I remember she ran pretty good however she has been in storage for atleast the last 10 years. When I picked her up she had no oil and no gas. My first task is to get her running again. This leads me to my first of I'm sure many questions. I would like to take the gas tank off to clean the rust out of it but I cant figure out how to get it off and Google hasn't helped much. I have been over it and cant find any screws or bolts thats holding it on so I thought it was just pressed on to rubber mounts. I have done some wiggling and pulling but its not budging. Does anyone know how to remove it?
WRBerg, you have to remove the seat if it's a double one because you have to pull the tank backward off two rubber mounts at the front. Remove the two bolts either side of tank at rear and obviosly disconnect fuel lines then just simply pull the tank backwards and lift away from bike.
It might also be a good idea to fit a new petcock kit as all the seals will have dried out and you don't want it leaking when you have re fitted tank and filled it with gas. If it doesn't move someone has welded it in place....lol Thanks for the feedback casamere. I'm in northern Virginia. I have removed the seat and disconnected all lines. I can see rubber mounts in front and there are also rubber mounts on each side toward the back. I am not able to find any bolts on either side of the tank? Do you know about where the bolts should be?
