Starter chain - how many links?
Tried again and chain definitely does not fit - see photo
Does anyone know what the pitch of the starter chain should be? Measuring the cog I would say 8mm, supplied chain is DID219H which on checking lists as 7.77mm though my measurement was a bit less but definitely less than 8mm. Greg
Interesting. All of the printed references that I have access to, state that the 28101-253-000 starter chain is a 219 chain (7.77mm pitch), 58 links long. So, I resorted to actually checking my bikes and spare parts (new and used). Sure enough, they're all 60 links. Don't know if there was a vintage typo that was perpetuated over the decades, or? Anyone with some insight on this would be appreciated. Regards, Chase
Hi you may try http://www.sprocketsunlimited.com/ for all your chains give them a ring they are very helpful they even sell a primary chain I have one on my CB77 and no problems after some 1,000 miles or so.
What is wrong with the starter chain in your picture it looks ok to me ? If it is to slack you could pack out the starter motor with some flat thin washers but this should not be necessary. I put a split link in my starter chain so as it made easy to fit remember the chain is not rotating when the engine is running. Edit I took a look again at your picture and see what you mean the chain is not on the front sprocket on the top pic, I would buy a new chain from the above that is where I purchased mine.
Hi SBMH
Yes getting one from sprockets unlimited might be an option but I do not want to buy another that does not fit so was hoping someone can confirm number of links and pitch. Honda documentation seems to say 58 links, 219 chain ....... but it does not fit. I am wondering if the original was perhaps 58 links with a slightly longer pitch of 8mm but can be replaced with 60 links of 219 (7.77mm) but I have no evidence. Greg
