305 camshaft removal by a newbie

Post by drdoom1951 » Fri Sep 22, 2017 11:21 am

I'm now the proud owner of a 1964 SuperHawk that is in desperate need of an engine rebuild. I've successfully removed the engine from the frame, disassembled the heads and cylinders from the cases, and then turned my attention to removal of the camshaft. Here's where things came to a screeching halt. My limited understanding of how these 305 camshafts come apart and come together are only exacerbated by the lack of any clear videos and photographs of what has to be done and where, in order to pull the cams off the head. My so-called Honda Service Manual for 1961-68 Bikes is practically devoid of detailed photos showing how to separate the RH from the LH cam, which I believe is joined by the large, stepped metal collar right next to the cam gear, which has a broken tooth, so it's gotta go.
Does anybody out there have any recommendation as to where I can go to actually see how these things come apart and go back together.
Thanks
