Satisfying, isn't it? It's almost disappointing when you put all that effort into making the tool, then the actual job is a bit of an anti-climax. :-)

Quick query for anyone that knows - front rim question.

I have spotted this on eBay but wasn't sure of the quality and correct fit:

Has anyone tried one of these Thailand wheel rims? Are they the correct fit, and any issues with quality of finish? The price is good if the quality is good.

My existing front was rough and I have doubt about it being rechromed to an acceptable level. On the outside it has some rust spots and looks like it could come up nice in the right hands. However, the inside (where the tube sits) is heavily rusted in placed and I don't know if this is too far gone. I can post a pick if that helps. I don't know of anyone in Scotland who does quality rechroming in any case.

If there are any other suggestions on rechroming specialists who can bring back the dead, or know of another front rim source, that would be much appreciated.

My plan is to start with the wheels and work my way up from there. The frame and swing arm have been powder coated so getting a rolling chassis is stage one.

Hello Eddie, I have yet to find any of the Thai rims that are drilled for the proper CB72/77 spoke angle. These are drilled for a smaller diameter brake hub, such as a on CB160. Using these will put the spokes in a bind as they are tightened, resulting in bowed spokes, not a good outcome. Perhaps try one of the UK suppliers, such as Devon Rim. Regards, Chase

Thanks for that, you just saved me wasting £65 or something that won't work!

I have had a quick chat with Devon and they need details of my hub. I'll sort that out and see what they quote me. I'll post the details on here which will hopefully help out someone else in the future.

The stock rims are WM1 (1.60) front and WM2 (1.85) rear. Spoke circle is 210mm diameter. The front hub has 40mm flange centers, while the rear is 44mm. The rims are centered on the hubs, no offset. If you're considering slightly oversize tires, a WM2 front rim and WM3 rear rim would be appropriate. Regards, Chase

Hoe badly are yours corroded / pitted? Prestige Electroplating in Mexborough will polish and replate them. Original DID rims are much sought after..

OK, the wheel issues and decisions continue. I really like the idea of WM2 on the front and WM3 on the back. Is there a WM3 rim that I can source that will work for the rear hub and spokes pattern? The alternative would be the same WM2 on front and rear. I have 2.75 front tyre and 3.25 rear tyre and it looks like both would fit nicely on a WM2 rim. I'm to sure how it would look though, maybe a bit strange?

After consulting Gordon from this site it may be my rims are too far gone. I'll post some pics later. Very interested to get ideas on a WM3 in the meantime, or going WM2 front and rear.
