Trying to track the numbers for those caps is like being BLIND as there are not bike numbers at the times any changes were made as to have or not have metal covers.
600 was metal 810 was plastic but no mention as to bike number.
Were I to want to have metal covers I wouldn't look so much for price as I would correct.
I've purchased MANY, MANY of these bikes and NEVER a set of metal covers.
Back about 1985 I ordered some caps and when they came in with metal I returned them as I wanted the grey plastic which I did get when the feller ordered the next issue number what ever that was.
Haven't seen any info either way or when but I'd bet HONDA didn't issue a 1966 CL77 with metal caps but I can't prove it.
ANYONE?????????????????????. .................lm
Ed, I'm not sure about the Cl77's but can say for sure that Cl175 ko's, Cb350 ko/k1's and early Cl450's had them. We were told they served as a resistor but all I found them good for was an easy path to ground. We always removed them at new bike set up / service.

For anyone who fancies the authenticity of the metal ones, they are available as Royal Enfield parts at a fraction of the price you see the 'genuine' originals being sold for.

I have pair on my CB77 and they are virtually indistinguishable from the original? metal type which may, or may not have been original equipment on the bike. I think that depends on the year of manufacture..

I agree with Ed on this............I have never seen metal caps on a CL72 or a CL77. I have seen them on the CA models and a few times on restored CBs.

Regarding the red paint................I have a PPG code derived from a color-match conducted on my own NOS chainguard that had never been removed from the wrapper. I find it looks best when sprayed over a dull yellow primer.

I found it on the Honda new delivery service #9 says : Remove the metal suppression caps by bending the tabs and discard. I knew many of the early Hondas came with them and were removed at pre-delivery. So do you want out of the crate original or as new delivered original. They were a constant problem if left on, grounding.

You just explained why I have never seen one on the CL72 or CL77 models.
