engine build - slowly but surely
Thanks, but I don't think this is XXX rated - lol! I hope it turns out the way I envisioned it. It's nice to machine things for myself, for a change.
I did get everything fitted out today. I did some "clean-up" machining on the sliders and backing plates, and did the final fitting of the two mounting bushings for the torque arm. The caliper mount worked out quite well for the torque arm. All the brake assembly hardware got plated, including the springs inside - you can see them through the six holes in the hub on the RH side. The hubs/brakes came off the 2400 mile parts bike, and were in very nice condition to start with.
I think I will start working up the fork brace. The stock CB 33mm forks are 167mm, center-to-center; the CX are 172mm. I got the axle spacer turned up so that the rim is centered very close to the fork tubes. I also plated the ends of the axle, and used S/S acorn nuts on the axle cap - I use wave washers under them - BMW uses many wave washers in production, at least the R60 I had. Seems to lock well without chewing up the nuts. I used a nylok nut on the axle, over a special made S/S washer.
