what coils would you use on your bikewhat coils would you use on your bikeHi there
I have a CB77 1964. I still haven't fixed the miss fire in it and I thought I would consider replacing the coils and leads just because they are 50 odd years old. While this may not be necessary, it would give me piece of mind that the coils and leads are good for a long time to come and then I can start chasing my miss fire at the points and condenser or maybe even the carbs. Thanks for your time and thoughts Scott So far I have only been able to find 2 options.
Classic Cycle Parts (Ebay) has after market coils for $100 for the 2 coils but with no HT leads. Charlies Place (web site) has Dyna coils for $282 for 2 coils and HT leads. I was thinking of still using my points set up for now. But if I decide to go for electronic ignition down the track is it better to go with Dyna or not necessary? Thanks for any thoughts or other options Scott I put something very similar to this in my CL77 and it works fine. The hardest part was finding one that was the right size. Good luck.

I was playing around with the bike and checking wiring to the coils and cleaning the points trying to find this miss fire. When the left set of points were open I put my thumb on the points shaft and pushed it "side to side" while I couldn't feel or see the shaft moving I could see the points gap changing. A mate told me to check for this. So now I'm thinking if there is movement in the cam shaft bush this will effect points opening time. Maybe it is a consideration to go for electronic ignition so the moving points shaft won't have an effect on timing. Mmm too hard on a Saturday night to work that one out.
Scottx, have fitted replacement coils from 4into1.com. They have performed fine so far after about 300 miles.
