CA&& NOS Mufflers?

Post by bodie1204 » Wed Oct 26, 2016 11:04 am

Hey guys,

When I got my bike I had some (from what I was told) NOS mufflers. I am not doing a restore on my bike more of a pleasure build. Since my bike won't be stock I would hate to use a mint pair of NOS mufflers on it, if they are repro then I will probably use. Is there any marks or way for me to verify they are NOS and not repro?

bodie1204, I can only offer you my experience in fitting repro mufflers to my CA77 from Overlander in Australia. Firstly it looks from the photo you have a pair of chrome mufflers as the Overlander ones are stainless. Second if you look at the rear you should see a hole where the bolt goes to hold the baffle. The Overlander mufflers have built in baffles so no hole.

These are my Overlander mufflers re polished and fitted, a nice job when I wanted the bike standard but I still crave to see a pair of chrome NOS mufflers fitted.

Thank you for your response Casamere. You are correct these are chrome not stainless, and I do indeed have a bolt hole near the exit of the exhaust to hold in baffles. I am starting to think they are legit NOS.

Good news and bad news I guess. I will probably look for another option for muffler as I would love to see NOS mufflers go to a real resto.

Those look like aftermarket mufflers to me mainly due to the shape at the rear. Maybe post some pics of the back sides, and the inlet area and we'll be able to tell for sure. The welding is usually a dead giveaway.

I think we determined they are repro's but happy to hear any comments. Here are a few more pics for reference.
