1967 CB77 Transmission Issue

Post by zads » Sun May 15, 2016 3:54 pm

I am having an issue with my 1967 CB77 transmission. It doesn't turn over smoothly and when you add pressure to the bearing it becomes harder to turn the transmission over. The bearing also has up and down movement when it is rotated. I replaced the kickstart spindle because I thought the original had a slight bend in it and that was the problem, but it didn't fix it.

What should I be checking for?

Thanks for any advice.

Something is not in the proper position. The noise you hear means the gears are engaging too deeply. It almost looks like the bearing you are pressing on is the wrong O.D. 'cause it doesn't seem to fit in the boss the way it should.

Everything looks kind of dry, did you try oiling the parts to help the gears turn on the shaft?

I recommend you check the actual location of EVERY gear.
I think you have gears in the wrong location. ................lm

I changed the location of the two gears that do not have the C clips with the wire ring and it made the transmission worse, you could not even get the kickstart spindle shaft to seat in its place. I went over the gears again, counted the teeth, everything is in the right place. I don't know what's wrong at this point.

The clicking noise is the kickstarter pawl.

Have you looked at the selector fork on that shaft? It may be binding slightly and holding the shaft out of place.

Have you tried rotating the selector drum to get thouse gears moving into different positions along the shaft?
