Clutch plate question, CL 77

Hi All,

I decided to pull off the clutch on my `66 Scrambler because of some slipping. Mine has 5 friction discs and they measure 3.7 mm thickness, which should be ok. I ordered a Barnett set of springs just in case, and now I`m wondering if I should replace the discs as well. What are the experiences with these 5-disc clutches? Is it normal that it slips when it`s not worn out? Perhaps the solution is to upgrade to the 6 disc-system? Or maybe just the surface of the discs lost their friction due to the 50 years and I should just buy a new set?

I also have a 5 plate clutch. The new plates I bought off brand measure 3.76mm. Do you have a manual that covers plates minimum thickness. My old plates measure larger and they have 22,000 miles on them?

I live in Nebraska, It's a 1966 CL77.........

Please do add that to your forum I.D.
The clutch your bike came with is the next to last design HONDA installed and yif you find the friction plates are ALUMINUM core you have the best available.
Your clutch WILL NOT MEET THE MEASUREMENTS you look for as the manuals you read are before this bike was issued.
Please call me at 830-895-0654 and I will keep you from wasting money and time measuring plates reversing the gains HONDA made with the later clutch design. ..............lm
