elektronik-sachse Digital Ignition /Charlies Place Ignition
elektronik-sachse Digital Ignition /Charlies Place IgnitionAnyone installed either of these electronic igntion units on a CL77 Scrambler ? The Sachse is crank fired with electronic advance with a black box and the Charlies place takes the place of the points / plate on the head and uses the stock spark advancer with no black box , the Sachse unit is more money and has to imported from Germany and the Chalies place is available right away from California . Both units require proper voltage regulation from the charging system as my 1966 CL77 has only a rectifier. Decisions , Decisions .
To quote one of my friends who raced these bike for a long period "The advance-retard unit in the moddle of the head is the worst part of the Honda ignition system".......

Re: elektronik-sachse Digital Ignition /Charlies Place IgniThe probe system as sold today works well as long as the points cam springs are correct.
I've installed several and all worked well. ...................lm
I have the Charlies place installed on my 1964 CB77 with no problems first time starting every time, I do not do a lot of miles so the new advance and retared I have fitted in the centre of the camshaft is unlikly to wear in my life time.
I do not like point's so fit and forget with a electronic set up you cannot loose but keep your points set up for you may need to put it back to STD when you sell the bike. You say Charlies is on your door step I know what I would choose. Like GMan say it's up to you and how you use your bike.
