My chromers don't like doing them unless they've been taken apart.

You could probably find some straight pins which would take a split pin or "R" clip to secure them.

That's interesting Ed. I just assumed that everything would have to come apart. I will talk to my chromer and see what he says. G-Man, impressive results. May I ask how you peen the rivets? Hydraulic press with a custom die maybe?

Thanks guys!

Paul

The first ones were hammer peened but I think any more I do will be done hydraulically. I have always taken mine apart. I like to tighten up the pivot clearances where necessary.

"Front of House" at my favoorite chromers is a lovely lady who examines everything you take in and puts sketches down on paper to avoid disappointment. Electrolysis is a 'line of sight' process so she insists that things are dismantled before they do their work. They also make a beautiful job of CL rims when most people here won't even touch them.

G-Man.......looks like a modern version of 'CROWN JEWELS'

My local chrome shop will do the linkage with the pins in-tact. They tape the rivet-head and plug the threaded areas. They tell me they 'swivel' the joint with a wooden stick while in the plating process.

Hi all,

I have another plating problem. I would like to re-chrome the taillight back plate. However, it does not appear to be designed for disassembly. It looks to me that the thing is held together by a "rivet like" mechanism attached to the back of the light socket. I could try to peel the lip up but am not very confident of getting the assembly back together as tightly as it is now. Any suggestions?

Paul

Hi Paul,
JD will do those brake linkages intact--not a problem---he did mine and they turned out great. Looks like you are missing the chain guard unless I missed it earlier in the post saying you did in fact have it. Not sure if you have a sandblaster yet but Eagle Manufacturing is the one that did mine--they did a great job on all of the parts, including the small little pieces.
