The part you need too replace is the "Gear Shift Spindle", 24610-259-010.
I have them. (great used). ....................lm

Thanks LOUD MOUSE. I just wanted to clarify that the part with the welding on it in this picture (see below) is the "Gear Shift Spindle" and not a Gear Shift Arm. Thanks for the advice.

I have a question, how do you guys decide if you're going to open up the bottom end? Unfortunately I never drove this bike more than one block, so I can't say how the transmission is. The bike has 10,000 miles on it.
Right now I'm waiting for some parts to show up. I took the top end of the engine to a machinist and I am going to get the cylinders bored, I'll be ordering pistons this week.
If the engine is already out and the top end in apart is it worth it to open the crankcase? I read that there is some bushings that have a tendency to wear out.

On a new-to-me bike, if I have the engine out anyway, I like to open the bottom end and do a thorough inspection. If anything is worn or loose, that's the time to fix it rather than drop the engine again later.

I took of the oil pump and my missing kickstart prawl showed up! It just fell out, any idea how this would happen? Have you seen this before?
