Late ones are narrow. Early ones are wide......

Very interesting. Mine is titled as a 67 with late components. I will try to do some number checking. Can you shed any light on this for me G Man?

Steve

The change happened at CB77E-1050998, so quite late on. The barrels are interchangeable but each has its own tensioner and gasket.

The gasket you need is 14591-258-000

CMS Mufflers

Post by Steverino » Wed Oct 14, 2015 8:48 pm

Thank you G Man I appreciate the information.
After reading the reports of ill fitting mufflers a few months ago I grew concerned about the two sets I had recently bought. I haven't been able to test fit them until now. I found out that all three mounting points line up and the eyelet (round) is exactly the correct size for the bolt. The left side might need some adjustment, if I can figure out how to do that because it seems to want to ride a little higher at the rear than the right side. The only possible adjustment point I can figure is possibly the bottom mount. I think I am going to try to find some decent original header pipes.

More muffler test fitting Advice More than Welcome

Here are some more pictures of the mufflers in place. I am not sure how far in or out they are supposed to ride. I should probably look at some pictures. Also, I figure I won't really know much until I try to fit the header pipes. I have a set of DSS but I don't know if I am even going to try to fit them.

Hi Steve, mufflers look good. If you could at least do a trial fitment with the DSS header pipes, this could be a benefit to the rest of us to see if they're a viable product. Thanks, Chase (who has a number of other repro header pipes that don't fit)

Hi Jensey
Paint and dirt? In the disassembly pictures? You can Presume I assembled the motor using basic mechanical hygiene. I don't like doing work over. Have a great day!
I'm sorry I bothered you, I was looking at this picture and was wondering what the white / grey "dust" was.

Anyway, good luck with your show, and thanks for time you took to respond to my post, have a nice day,

Jensen
