Thank You Loud Mouse
Here are some pictures. My experience with the CA95 and CB160 has been if I move the cam one tooth forward it will be further off than it was. So is this close enough?

Although that doesn't look like much I think you are a tooth off.
The only real way to tll is to compare the sprocket plate to the level of the head. ................lm

LM
Here is a pic of the sprocket plate at top level and the position of the rotor. Fortunately I don't have one of those endless cam chains to deal with.

Thank you Randy,

You were right Loud Mouse. The original owner had it apart then couldn't get it to run right and stuck it in the barn. I had never seen the inside of an engine come apart looking so clean. The only thing I could come up with was he must of changed his oil a lot. I wonder if I'm going to find a new set of pistons when get the top off. Thanks Again I really appreciate your help.

Took the top end off and no obvious answers.

Until Loud Mouse and Hoosier Tom spotted the misassembly problems with my motor I thought it had never been apart. Once it was established it had, I was curious just how far the previous owner had been into it. I figured since the cam timing was off he had probably attempted a ring job. That always seemed to be the first thing that needed to be done when I was a kid. We'd go flat out riding double up a big long hill and... So even though my gasket and seals aren't here yet I went ahead and took the top end off today.
Here is a picture of the starter chain misalignment due to the washer being placed between the filter and the case instead of the filter and the pin. Thanks for noticing that Hoosier Tom.

I made sure I wasn't going to drop anything into the case.

The barrels feel pretty smooth to me. They measure 60mm.

The pistons and rings look good to me too.

So, to me at least, these look like original parts and I got 150 psi on both sides when I checked the compression so I don't know why he would of felt the need to take the top end off. I did manage to get it running that way (kind of) last winter. I wanted to run it a little to listen for bad crank bearings or rod knocks. Here is the link to that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g29gNS6g6yw
Anyone have any ideas?
Steve
