What size are the points adjustment screws? What size are the points adjustment screws?I'm not talking about the cross head 5x12 (0.9) points plate mounting screws that are in the parts diagram.
I'm referring to the slotted screws not shown in the parts book that hold the actual contact breaker to the points plate and which we use to adjust the points gap. They seem smaller than 5mm (maybe 4mm?), but I haven't checked. If I remove them just to check I'll have to redo the gap and timing... Mine are all buggered from a PO using the wrong sized blade, so now, every time I move those things, they get worse. I want to replace them and don't have any reference for them. And all the images I've seen of new points that I want to buy don't seem to show that screws are included. This is for my 1964 Dream 305. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Had: '75 CB550 K, '79 CT90 They're 4mm but the thread pitch is a crap shoot. They are either .75 or .7 depending on the vintage of the plate and the manufacturer. Those threads seem to strip pretty easily too. If you're chasing a thousandth in gap or a degree or two of timing, you can just bend the ground side of the points without dealing with the screws; open to advance close to retard.
Thanks 48! I'll see what I can find. Maybe I'll get 2 of each thread pitch! ;-) Cheers!
