Steverino's CB77
Hi 48lesco
It is driving me a little batty that I can't see it and people who's opinion I value highly are. The original contact on this told me the bowing is more apparent when the nipples are fully tightened. I'm going to finish installing the forks today so Maybe I will mount up the wheel and go through the truing process until it is apparent to me. I will keep my straightedge handy and keep checking as I go. I have another CB160 project besides the one currently on the bench that I can use this rim on. I remember G Man provided a link to a manufacturer of a known to be correct rim but darned if I can find it now. Those muffs are the originals but I ordered a set from Overlanders. Barry says they'll be done in June. Thank again. Steve
That rim is if not the same is similar to what another forum member was selling on eBay. (APEX?)
Compare the rear spokes to those front spokes and anyone can see the angle from the rim/nipple changes at the threaded area. This isn't new. .............lm
Thank You Everyone for your help on the incorrect rim problem. Although I've been restoring old cars for 30 years, I've only been working on the old Hondas for a few years now and this is just my third set of spoke wheels, the first two being CB160s. I appreciate the wake up call before I damaged my spokes. This morning I went ahead cautiously in tightening the nipples and I didn't get another full turn on two or three and they started going into a bind. They weren't coming up like my CB160's or the rear wheel on this bike. It became obvious real quick. At that point I took the assembly apart to look at the angles again. For an untrained eye, this difference is subtle and I didn't see it until now.
CAM01894 by stevesteverinomeister, on Flickr I talked to Star Brite Plating in Oregon City and they are happy to take my original in on Monday. It will cost about the same as a new Buchanan (MANDAP WM1 (1.60) x 18" CHROME PLATED STEEL RIM - 36H 286.00, by the way, are the holes extra?) but I won't have to worry about the darn thing fitting. So that is the plan for now. Again, I truly appreciate everyone's contributions in helping me to restore this great motorcycle properly. Hey deafanddiabetic Thank You for the compliment on my paint. I have been doing that for a while. For small jobs like this I use lacquer sprayed through a TIP HLVP gun. Thanks again Everyone, I am never too old learn something. Steve A small order from David Silver Spares arrived today and I was a little surprised to see some Ohio Cycle labeled parts in the order. I thought they were competitors.
I was going through my order and was surprised to see the swingarm bushs are brass. I was expecting to get the original type that appeared to be made out of bakelite or something like that. Here is a pic of one of the them. I hit it with the buffer to see if I could make it look as nice as G Man's but it didn't shine up quite enough. The spots on the bush are rain drops. Yep, it rains in Oregon. CAM01903 by stevesteverinomeister, on Flickr CAM01904 by stevesteverinomeister, on Flickr CAM01900 by stevesteverinomeister, on Flickr CB77 MufflersHi 48lesco
