I hear you regarding the early Japanese tires. I bought a brand new 650 Yam in 1973 and for some reason, only that model came with a back tire that had a dead square profile, almost like a hard rubber tire on a hand truck. I was too poor to put new rubber on the bike so I just gritted my teeth and rode the daylights out of it. It actually never let me down. And like you, I ground the foot rubbers regularly.

Too bad somebody does not buy up the old molds and start producing those tires again. Coker makes vintange tires for really old American iron. I need to buy as set of Firestones for my knucklehead. I'm sure the repro Firestones are much better than their 1947 counterparts, but not sure that would be the case for repro K70's.

regards,
Rob

The CL77s had two brands of tires over the years, Nitto trials universal and (made in Japan) Dunlop K-70s, 3.00X19 front and 3.50X19 rear.

On this I disagree.
The CL72 used the DUNLOP UNIVERSAL as did the CL77 until apx. 1966 when the brand but not the tread was changed to BRIDGSTONE UNIVERSAL.
Near the end of CL77 production the raised lettering (BRIDGESTONE UNIVERSAL) was white.
The K70 tread wasn't issued on the CL72 or CL77 by HONDA.
The CB72 /77 used OTSU in the early years. .....................lm
