Hey Vince,

Yes, 3/16" above is good.

Unless you also installed a cooler? I think 2 +- Qts is sufficient. Double check with John on that.

I would also recommend slow warmups with the wider gear setup. I have seen 40 psi with cold 10w 30 oil. Also have seen gear pin shear in home made 9mm setups were guy was running 50 wt. That's a bad idea!
As the oil heats up the oil pressure drops a lot.

What's next? Roller cam? :-)

No nothing along those lines. What may be next is another chain guard, but that's something that Lee can work on at his leisure. The next step is to ride ride ride! So all you Maryland and Pennsylvania donut shops - beware!

I will verify the 3/16" / almost 3 qts capacity with Johnnie....stay tuned.

No oil cooler installed BTW.

I can hear Vincent Black Shadow owners crying everywhere.

But seriously, everything worked out well, John's happy with the results, and I'm ready to ride. I did confirm the amount of oil that is now in the bike, and it's about 2.5 quarts. With this new filter, the oil remains in the galleys (it didn't seem to remain in the galleys with the old setup), so between that, the new oil pump, and Franco Cappellini's recommendations (3/16" above the filler line on the dipstick), it works out to 2.5 quarts. John also replaced the inner and outer o-rings for the oil filter side cover, to further insure oil-tightness.

I'm just waiting for the weather to be a bit nicer, and for me to have a free weekend to take it out for a spin.

It looks great! Are those rims alloy? I like the way you have painted the center section of the hubs, too.

Thanks Graham -- yes, they're alloy rims, stainless spokes. I had the centers of the hubs painted black years ago, so the only thing that Lee did were the rims (which I think he did masterfully). He used a single-stage paint for the black, and pinstriping paint for the red. He suggested using Dawn dish soap to clean the rims, rather than something stronger like Simple Green.

BTW I'm looking for a good magnetic drain plug. I bought one a couple of years ago from Sirius Consolidated (the red one), but it didn't work out.

Anybody try one of these? Would this work?
