65 305 Dream Seat Trim 6mm nuts turn but do not unscrew?
65 305 Dream Seat Trim 6mm nuts turn but do not unscrew?65 305 Dream CA77 survivor, Blaine in Santa Cruz CA
I am replacing the original seat cover. the seat was in good condition, no rust etc. just rips in the vinyl. prior to any removal efforts; I treated the 6mm nuts with rust buster and next day attempted to unscrew with a 6mm socket. The nuts turn freely but the threaded shaft rotates with them. I would assume I had twisted them off but they are still attached, and the chrome seat trim is still firmly in place. I've searched the threads and see no mention of this. Is there a member with more of the upholsterer's knowledge who could help me out. much appreciated, Blaine chrome stripThey are tiny screws with nuts on them. When you put a socket on them you are turning the whole screw.
The way I've removed them in the past was by getting a tiny pair of pliers to hold the threaded part of the screw and turn the nuts with a small open end wrench of the proper size. Once you get a few turns with the wrench you can get them off with your fingers. It's very time consuming.
Re: chrome stripSorry mike we posted at the same time!
Thanks for the information and link to the walk through!I don't know why some of more of this didn't pop when I searched, but thank you one and all for your experience and suggestions.
I think I can get it done without damaging anything except maybe the screws. and the 6 x 32 x 1/2 should replace any that break. thanks again, Blaine
