how difficult is it to find oem tank pads? not reproductions

They are just hooked over a metal bracket on the tank. Just pull away from the bracket and peel off. No glue involved.

G-man has it................except for the "Just"..............its actually quite difficult to remove and replace new or old units without damaging something..........ie..........the pad is cheap compared to new paint!

I use dish-soap to lubricate the back of the pads..........removal & installation.

I have several sets...........original and repo............the 1st repos were made for Ohio Cycle (Nick) and are hard to tell apart from NOS........I have no experience with the current production. Hint........all originals say CL72 on back.

Tip......old units with very mild cracks can be softened with wintergreen oil (or a long soak in dish-soap) and re-installed...............just apply some black marker or cloth electrical tape, to the silver paint so nothing shows through the thin cracks.

I have boiled the kettle and used the hot water to soften the rub with good results. works for removing bar grips too
