Learning is more difficult to some more than others and the way you are starting your time with this great forum may show others including myself If You Are Able To Learn!
You are new to the forum (27 posts) and the oil topic has been going for years. (read it and you can possibly learn) I've read many facts for the oils and many other topics (5547 posts) so I don't need you to tell me how I am. I have and will continue to help others by sharing my knowledge/experience with others and if they don't agree with what I've LEARNED "1963 to 2015 is 52" years of gathering data/info and I freely share with them what I've learned (yes I do learn but I'll not be Force Feed with things I disagree with) that is their choice. It may surprise you how many of these engines are Running Well on ND oils and the change interval I recommend is "Every Spring" when you start to ride again. ..............................lm
Argument is that I have lots of experience with lots of things and I've learned to make my own decisions and to not be influenced by persons as you who I at this time want me to Go Your Way.
I've looked at your profile and You Offer Nothing other than where ya live. I have to tell ya that at this time ya are the "I've always done it this way so I will keep on doing it this way" as ya want to chastise me for having been "Where ya haven't been and know what I do". Keep it up and ya will find others feel the same as I do at this time. ...............lm
Oil threadPerhaps they they do. And perhaps sir you'll find out just how much he does know when you come back to the forum with an actual problem with your early model Honda...but "of course" you'll come back, right?
Clearly it is possible to achieve (as Honda determined) satisfactory performance by using the oil that Honda recommended in bikes that Honda designed in the later 50s and manufactured into the late 1960s.
Engineering is constantly changing ( sometimes for cost, sometimes for safety, sometimes for performance) so you should expect those recommendations to change with time. Honda's Cub and CG125 engines share a lot of design (air cooled, centrifugal slinger) with our old bikes and the Honda recommendations have progressed with time. We are all quite at liberty to accept or ignore advice as we wish. Playing with old bikes is a hobby which provides us with therapy. We are not here to make money from each other are we? Just relax and do what makes you happy....... many people have heard of Kevin Camron ,he wrote an article in Cycle World a few years back on the affects of motor oil in a motorcycle transmission.Lots of chemistry happening but to make a long story short, he said,regular motor oil is not suited for transmissions ,the high shear forces break it down as well as allowing direct tooth to tooth contact.High heat from friction and wear being the result .From this I put two and two together ..very short change intervals must mean something bad is happening to the oil ..honda engineers are not stupid ,not then and not now.the rest to me is a no brainer.I use Amsoil which has the correct chemistry to protect the tranny. What anyone else does is up to them .I thought this forum was about the free exchange of ideas ..the problem for the reader is to decide which ideas are good and which are not .
