CA77/CB77 barrels compatibility

Post by arthur305 » Sun Dec 07, 2014 3:08 am

G'day All,
Been a while since I have looked at the Forum, but now is a good time!
I have a 1966 CB77, just finished the engine, and wanted to start on the next Honda project.
I bought a bike (well frame, wheels, most of the engine) which was supposed to be a 1963 CB77.
Turns out the frame is CB77, but the bottom end of the engine is C72 (ie 360 degree twin, 250cc etc...), the barrels are 305, and the head is CB77 (twin carbs, but no points, has cams).
Information from another source suggests that there may be an incompatibility in the oilways between the C77 and CB77 barrels. Anyone know if that is correct?.
According to my reading of the parts manuals both barrels have the same part number - so I may be OK?
I had a look at the CB77 and the "other" barrels, and the only difference I can find is in the casting marks (just below the oil gallery on the front of the barrels) - the "true" CB77 has "305 cc" cast into it, whereas the "maybe" CA77 or CB77 barrels have "305 cc H1" cast into it.
Can anyone throw some light on the subject?
Many thanks, Arthur

Both the same part. You should be fine. More worrying will be the mismatch between head and cams, unless the head has a CA77 cam in it.
