Will try the black RTV first.
The 3M can be a bit "forever".

I would be interested to know how it goes -- that was one of the reasons why I converted my tank to the CB350 gas cap arrangement.
Vince, I don't if you've solved this one or not, but...I was concerned about the same thing. Someone here suggested that I put a bead of cyanoacrylic glue around the filler lip and overlap the painted portion with it. Making sure, of course, that it doesn't exceed the diameter of the gas cap, so it's not visible. I did that. So far, so good!

You know, the original air filters on my bike had the power jet connections (now that I know what they are). I think I tossed them, though - they were so disintegrated. I'll look see and let you know.
If I can find them, I'll give them to you. I discarded a bunch of stuff, and I'm worried they were in there! I'll let you know, for sure.

I have them if Sara can't find hers. They have 2 nipples on the right and 1 on the left.

Another reason for never throwing something away........
But having said that, this is were I have to work through...

Like the box with the wood chips I got from someone (he wanted to throw it away), after cleaning the parts the results were :

Two aluminium shock cover (lower) of '61 shocks, one '61 speedo dail (km/hr !), one early head light shell with the spring mount, NOS piston, very early engine side cover and countless engine parts.
