Should this go to the scrap yard?Should this go to the scrap yard?Dad wants to take this to the scrap yard! He told me, "come get it if you want it." I am pretty sure there is more value here than scrap...This was his first bike. He worked a couple hundred hours for it when he was 14 and this was his payment. He remembers getting it in the early to mid 60's. We are not sure what year? VIN number has been ground off of the motor. He said it was like this when it was given to him...He remembers painting the tank himself...don't think green was the orig. color. It has been sitting in my grandfathers barn since the 70's when he quit running it...Motor does not seem to be frozen. It was parked with fuel in the tank...Part of me wants to restore to orig. and return it back to him...other part says, sell it for parts and give him the money...I have no idea where to start...opinions please. Does anyone perform restoration? How much would it cost to drop it off and have the work done? Is there any way to obtain a new vin number to get it back on the road?

Check out Ebay. You will spend mucho dinero getting this one back in shape including the title. I wouldn't know how to handle the vin on the motor.

Please, please, PLEASE do not take it to the scrap yard. Believe it or not there are a lot of parts on that frame that many of us can use. Put an ad on CL and say FREE........you'll have 305 guys beating down your door. Somebody will buy it and part it out to the rest of us so that we may keep our bikes running......or rebuild it to a running example of the hey day of the 60's. These bikes are approaching (some passing) 50 years old and EOM parts are hard to come by. We MUST keep these bikes running. I know you'll do the right thing.

What he said. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if you lived not that far away but then you didn't happed to list your location. Rusty Thanks for all the feed back so far...Sorry, I am from New Florence Pa. Bike is located half hour north of Pittsburgh. Is there any chance this bike could be street legal again? What would be a reasonable "starting bid" if I were to put it on ebay? Rough idea on cost to restore? Need to figure out the financial end...then work it against the sentimental value...
