Good and the bad

Post by ensoniqdude » Mon Aug 25, 2014 11:08 pm

One of those days...

Made it home and decided to take the recently refreshed 1965 Dream out for a ride.

Pleasent cruising around the area, gently coaxing the 26+ massive horsepower engine to life. Waving to a few folks along the way who were smiling at the aged black beauty rolling past with a 60's era sound.

Got home and decided to photograph the old and the new - two "touring" bikes from different eras.

Something wasn't right.

Left side cover wasn't participating. Not in the garage. Not on the bike. Not in the driveway.

Panic sets in.

Somewhere along the pleasent cruise was a nearly 50 year old piece of black metal that had decided to take a different path.

Grabbed the helmet and gloves and started to roll the big touring bike out on a search and recovery mission.

Warning indicators. Alarms in the brain. Klaxon horn blarring - like an aircraft going down.

"Stall Warning - pull up! Stall Warning - pull up!"

Gravity is harsh mistress; no, she's a bitch.

- "Man, down! Man, down!"

650lbs of sleek, astonishing, mechanical perfection had fallen and wasn't getting back up.

Pilot ejected and continued the search in the perky but plebian 2003 Saturn Ion.

Five miles out...on the center line of a two lane county road...what was a nearly perfect example of a 1960's piece of motorcycling history...sat scuffed, dented and discouraged - the left side cover of Black Beauty.

Got home, and set up the girls for a photo shoot...

Nice looking bikes. Sad to hear about the side cover. Is it repairable? Are you in New York? Noticed your inspection sticker. I'm down by Poughkeepsie.

I'll be honest, I got a little lost in your story. I think I caught that you lost a left side cover, though? I've got an extra, it's repairable but not perfect, it is black. Totally useable just has the weird, "dents hilly texture".

JonnyT, I've got an extra ignition coil. I honestly don't know if it works or not, I haven't tested it but it came extra in a box of parts. Hit me up through email, I'll look at it when I get home and see what kind of shape it's in.
