Honda Dream CA77 305 Speedometer Rebuild Walk-ThroughspeedometerIf it's that rusty it's probably toast. Look for a replacement speedo.
speedoThey come up for sale from time to time. Like you said, you have to be patient. When they show a picture of the back of the speedo and there is brown dust coming out of the light sockets beware. Also watch for dust on odometer and the face

After forgetting my bike in a quick rain shower, I noticed there was a ton of moisture in the already filthy speedometer after only a few minutes in the rain. So, I pulled out the speedo, uncrimped the bezel and pulled 'er apart so I could clean it out and add new seals. I then cut out a piece of cardboard to lay behind the needle to protect the face while I removed the needle. After prying on the needle she finally popped off - and like you said, I thought I had broken it... But in my case, I really did!!!! So now I have a broken speedometer that I might have to send out for repair. Oh well, thanks for the instructions anyway. At least I got her nice and clean! ____ A few tips I have for anyone else: -If your needle is a faded orange, try lightly polishing it. You may be amazed at how well you can restore the brightness of the orange. -Wadded aluminum polish (NeverDull) works great at cleaning up the face without removing any of the paint. -You may want to apply some WD40 to the needle post and leave the speedo upside down to soak (upside down so the WD-40 doesn't leak into the mechanism) before attempting to remove the needle or you may end up with a broken post like mine :(
Pictures are missing - Photobucket errorPhotobucket error: "Please update your account to enable 3rd party hosting."
Looks like an awesome guide, but unfortunately, as of 8.5.2017, embedded photos are missing. Any chance anyone has the set or an archive of the thread?
Photobucketlook like photobucket is now requiring everyone to pay $400 a year to host those photos. :( So I'll have to find another way for them to show up. I am migrating everything to Imgur.com for now.
I'm half-way through fixing this thread...it is time consuming but it's getting there slowly! '64 CA77 305 Dream
