Went for a quick 100 mile ride yesterday. Me, Andrew (Ducati) and Scott (Interceptor 500) blasted the Maryland backroads, and discovered a couple of new routes in the process.

Hey Vince, how does the Superhawk hold up with those other bigger displacement bikes???

On the backroads the SuperHawk can actually smoke these boys (don't forget, mine is a 358cc 5-speed). It just flicks back and forth with such ease, and the times in which they have to brake for a tight turn, I can just downshift and away we go.

Obviously though, on the highway they'll pull away from me. The 696 Monster is probably good for 130mph, whereas the SuperHawk will barely pass 100.

Moral of the story is -- stick to the two-laners, and they'll only be seeing your taillight fading in the distance :)

Went on a 120 mile ride today -- started a bit later than I normally like, but the roads were good and the traffic wasn't too bad.

I made another attempt at a video -- the sound is much better (mic was inside my helmet in the ear cavity, which gives you some idea of what I hear when riding), but I can't be using this camera for this purpose (Olympus E-P2). When the road gets bumpy, it shuts itself off. Plus, the location and mounting of the camera (a monopod shoved down my boot) isn't the best solution, as it moves around and I usually end up with the camera pointing at the side of the bike and not down the road (I was trying to isolate the camera from the bike so as to minimize the 'bumps', but it's still not enough). So I have to figure that out - maybe a GoPro is the solution. But, at least I have better sound.

Participated in the 25th anniversary of the Nostalgia Run in Thurmont, MD yesterday:

Took the 90-mile route, and did about 244 miles total yesterday. Bike performed great -- I just had the Cappellini oil filter conversion kit installed, and noticed a tad more 'ooomph' out of the engine. Not sure if that was all in my mind or if the elimination of the 'drag' on the engine from the centrifugal filter actually made a difference. Mind you, I was leaving my friend Robert and his Bonneville in the dust on those twisty backroads, so maybe there is something to it.....
