Are there different seats for different years for the CA77?Are there different seats for different years for the CA77?I have a '65 CA77. The seat fits onto the two forward mounts underneath the tank and bolts up nicely to the mounts over the rear whee. However, when looking at the bike from the side there is a good piece of daylight between the bottom of the seat frame and the backbone of the frame. The seat that I have has its stainless strip over the vinyl and is complete but the bottom of the seat frame doesn't seem to dip down low enough. Is there a specific year or range of years where the seat frame is shaped lower in the front to cover this gap? I've seen many dead-on photographs of 305's that don't have this gap and I don't know what to look for. I've purchased a couple of old seat frames thinking that they looked like they'd fit better but they all fit the same. I can post a picture if that would help. Any insights are appreciated.
B you have a correct seat for that model dream. that said, the front seat pan forks on dream seats are prone to bending (down usually), making the seat look to be sagging in the front. yours may have had this and been a little over repaired. the front should be a little lower. they can be easily tweaked. the earlier dreams ( < mid year 63) had a more molded forward edge that fits the tank closer, and the very early dreams (seamless tank <62) had a much more pronounced dip in the lower front as well.
Good luck Randy Bon
Your bike has a pre middle '63 tank so it may be earlier than '65 with a wrong seat. Your seat should be shaped at the front to meet the tank. What is the chassis number? That would help date it. This is my '62 C72. It has a different tank than the'77 but you can see how the seat works with the tank. '61 CB72 '64 CB77 '65 CB160 '66 Matchless 350 '67 CL77 '67 S90 '77 CB400F The tank is a '62 or '63, I believe, as it doesn't have the top standing seam. The vin's for the motor and frame are for a '65. The gap between the seat and tank can certainly be better and that should be correctable with some reshaping. I'll look closely at the front seat mounting forks to see what needs to move so the seat sits lower in the front and go from there. I appreciate the input and pictures.
