The sad truth is there aren't many females in the 305 community. An all-male club is just too boring. I hope you will stay in and do it with both feet as has been demonstrated in your past posts. You have a lot of courage and I really admire it. I, for one, will help you work through figuring out how many of your parts can be re-used, etc.
I appreciate the sentiment, I really do. But what I'm dealing with here is eight motorbikes (seven of them over 35 years old) and a very small urban garage. When I realized that I haven't been able to find the time or resources to put the Dream back together for the last 2.5 years, I decided that I just can't hold on to it any longer. If the bikes were the only thing in my life maybe I could hack it, but I also work full time and I'm trying to renovate my hundred year old rowhouse....and I'm just overwhelmed. The bottom line is: I don't have the time to rebuild it, I can't justify putting even more cash into it to have someone else rebuild it, and I just don't have the space to store it any longer.

Here's the thing: were the frame in better shape, I could see the wisdom in hanging on to it at all costs. But it's not a particularly fine specimen - hence the thought that it might be appropriate to part out.

There will be another 305 someday - once I get control of what's currently in the stable. Because yes, I did really enjoy riding it.
G-Man wrote:I am curious as to what these engine parts that need replacing are. There are not many critical parts underneath the cover that holds the stator / rotor and starter clutch. What are the parts that you know (or were told) need replacing? You say that the bike was running fine before the starter clutch went wrong so I am perplexed at what else suddenly failed at exactly the same time....
It has been so long that I forget just exactly what engine parts need replacing. But I can try to get over to where it's being stored (taking up space at a local shop that is, thankfully, owned by some friends) and snap some pictures. It was more a case of stuff that was worn out enough that it would have been just stupid to do a full rebuild and not put in fresher parts.

But I will re-examine this. Hopefully I can get down there in the next few weeks.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate the help.

Thanks for your reply - and I do understand your position. I too have an overflowing garage with old Hondas, a full time job and lots of tiring travel to all corners of the globe.

I treat my bikes as therapy and yes, I have fallen into the trap of "it would be stupid no to replace all this stuff when it's apart".

The truth is though that most of those "worn out" parts will keep working for years at the kind of usage we put things to these days.

So even if you are going to sell the bike, I would try to get the motor back together as much as possible for the new owner. You never know - you might fall in love with it again...... At the very least, you will have more money in your pocket. It's very difficult to be enthusiastic about abandoned projects...

Looks like I might be getting to the garage where the Dream is living tomorrow. I'll assess the motor's condition, hopefully.
