worn dogs on 2nd gear and you can't always tell about shift forks at a glance. yes, you could get two (or five) used gear sets and all have the same problems. oversize cotters are the fix for the gear dogs. and really take a close look for galling on the shafts.
good luck

There was std 23941-250-010 and 2 offset cotters, 23941-259-305 and 23943-259-305. Look at your parts manual and read Bill Silver's write up.

I did not replace the cotters

Is this something I can still buy new? should I put in std or OS?

Just so there's no confusion when you search for these, they are "offset" cotters and they come in two varieties, .020" (23941-259-305), and .040" (23943-259-305). I'd go straight to the .040's. None are available from Honda, but they are out there. Try hondarestoration.com, Western Hills, hondanuts.com, etc. Here's a series of snaps with the .040's installed; the offset cotters just move the stationary gears closer to the sliders they have to engage with.

I found a place that still has the 23943-259-305

Based on the microfiche of the trans, I need (4) of these cotters correct?
