what's it worth? 1965 cl72 need help 3/8/14Buy itMark, I was merely stating my position on whether or not " I" would buy that bike. Fortunately that bike has all the "right" things wrong with it. ( Easily remedied) You are oh so right about starting with one stored in a field for 40 years ( been there, done that) If you can afford it, buy it! Money regenerates, opportunities don't.......................D
I finally traded for the bike... Now I have to figure out what I want to do with the engine and start banking parts for making it close to original as I can over time.
I have to decide between making the engine a 305 or 250?? The lower is a ca77 and the upper is a 247cc. The odds of me finding a lower with a vin close to the frame number may be impossible so if I can't make it that close, what's the harm in just taking a 305 upper and changing it over? Sorry, putting my thoughts into text. Anyways here is some better pics in my garage. Sorry, I was having trouble loading them...
Here they are, just looking over the bike I noticed they put radiator hose on for the airbox/intake/carb boots, there is some overspray on the parts from when they "painted" it. I need a manual for the bike because I hooked up a battery and got nothing, I'm not sure which of the 3 key settings it needs to be on or exactly what the 3 way switch on the headlight bucket does. I couldn't get the headlight to come on (which may only when running) or the horn to work.... I downloaded a owners manual but would still like a Honda shop manual and a parts manual... The owners manual I downloaded shows 5 key settings like my old dream I had and not the 3 key one. I need to clean the tank and carbs then I'm going to try to get it going. Sorry, You'll have to zoom out on your browser... I finally got the imgur BBC links to work but the are HUGE!!
The current plans are to keep it maybe forever? The frame vin is CL72-10051XX so I would really like to find a CL72 bottom end to put it back to stock with a vin number very close to that. The same would be nice but it is going to difficult enough just finding one close.. After I find that I will have this CB77 lower up for grabs. I need to find the correct CL72 exhaust since I believe this is CL77 exhaust on it. get a dent guy to take out a couple small dents and paint the correct colors. Clean it up a bit more and buy some OEM parts to replace the non OEM ones put on it. The manifolds have "22" stamped in them and the carbs have "26" and "CL77A" stamped into them. A lot of info but that's where I'm at right now. :-D
