Speedometer needle broke :(

Post by hondadreamca77 » Tue Jan 22, 2013 12:07 pm

Enjoying a beautiful Sunday afternoon ride when the speedo needle started bouncing then loud whining and bam....needle broke off. Read G mans tutorial...great. When I took out the headlamp to inspect the speedo cable was almost totally off the speedo...vibration unscrewed it and barely touching. Going to take out and repair...any idea how I can get/make a new needle?

Thanks,

Steve

Steve

Try and buy a scrap speedo or you may be able to solder the two halves of yours back together. They are brass..

Atlas wrote:Love your article. I have an old working dream speedometer that needs that face sticker/decal but i'm having trouble finding the right website. I've been going to stickers@reproductiondecals.com but there are so many directions to go after that. Was the right spot called the image works motorcycle graphics. Thanks so much
Thanks Atlas! Glad it's working out for you. For others, I e-mailed stickers@reproductiondecals.com directly. I didn't go to their website.

broken speedo

I have a speedometer thats an early yazaki meter that i have installed a new nippon face decal and it looks pretty nice. One number is off the odomeder though and my crimping of the chrome ring could have been a little better but all in all i believe it to be a good usable ca77 speedometer. If your interested make me an offer.

speedometer rebuild

Paperslamer your posting on the speedometer rebuild is FANTASTIC! It gave me the ability (courage) to take mine apart and get it working again! THANK YOU for taking the time and effort to write such complete instructions on how to do a rebuild.

Really impressive write up. Having just bought my dream in the late fall of 2013 I have not really had a chance to ride it. When I test rode it the speedo worked fine. I'll cross my fingers because this project looks tough.

awesome detailed piece: great job.
I am going through this myself write now...except the inside of my speedo is fully rusted shot.
Got it all opened: the spring that is attached to the needle shaft is gone to rust powder! Do you guys know where it could get another one? Not even sure how it attaches to the shaft as that area is a clump of rust.
cheers
Ivan
