parts check

Post by choppermtn » Sun Feb 02, 2014 11:00 am

Thanks for the reply. The CA 72 has a 305 engine on it . That was really confusing . The next thing is will the 250 tank and side covers work on the CA 78 ? The parts was why I bought the CA72.

The battery on the 1962 Dream was narrower and longer so that cover may not fit. The tank on the 1962 Dream was different from the later bikes. It may fit but won't be correct for the CA78.

Assuming the parts on the CA72 are the original parts since I don't see a photo yes and no. The CA72 tank will fit but is different than the CA77 tank and is also made to accept the early seat. If you mount it to your CA77 with your 1965 CA77 seat you will have the rear cutout of the tank showing. The battery side cover should fit based on the CA77 frame number but the right side cover on your '62 CA72 has a slot cut out for the early clutch cable routing/ early motor right side engine cover which based on your CA78 frame number you shouldn't have. But again, since I don't have pics to see I don't know what set up you have on your CA77.

help

Post by choppermtn » Sun Feb 02, 2014 1:22 pm

Thanks for the help . I do see that the side cover has the cut out for the early clutch cable , also I have the seat and tank on the ca72 but it still looks like the rear of the tank has too much cutout at the seat. Here are some pics. I will restore the white one as it runs and the black one will be for parts. Mabye I can trade some of the early parts for the ones I need I really want to make the white one correct as possible.

If the tank ornament (central chrome strip) on the '62 is in good shape - it is probably worth more than you paid for the bike. That tank with the bug eye panels is quite sought after. There was a guy on the forum in desperate need a while back.

Are your rear shock top covers on the white bike metal or plastic? And on the black bike?
