Kevin, thanks! I was turning the drum by hand. I'll try pushing the fork.Hahnda wrote:I would try putting the shift linkage back on and trying to shift it while you watch it. You might have to support/hold the shift shaft as the cover is not supporting it now. Are you turning the actual drum by hand or pushing the fork forward and back to shift? Try pushing the fork to see if you have enough travel to shift.

First off, Tom and Kevin - thank you!!!!
Ed - as always, thank you!! I found two issues, minor, but they added up. With Ed's help, I found that the index roller on the shift drum was tight. An adjustment there, and the fork moved the shift drum easily and consistently. Ed stepped me through most of reassembly (it was nice to have that reassurance!). I finished putting the clutch cover on and getting the shifter reinstalled on my own. I tried her out, not running, and she WOULDN'T SHIFT. Hmmm. I rocked the back wheel. Still, no go. Okay. I made an adjustment to the clutch tension bolt (the big one) on the right engine cover, and got the clutch to positively release. It still wouldn't shift. Then I recalled reading somewhere on here that somebody had discovered that their shift linkage was too sloppy and causing shifting problems. So, I made an adjustment to the shift linkage, and - SNICK. First gear. Up - SNICK - neutral! Up - SNICK - second!! Then it down shifted. I rotated the wheel. It still worked. Progress! Tomorrow, I'll put oil back in her, put some more gas in her, and fire her up and see what happens then. Fingers crossed!! 1965 CB77 305 Super Hawk

Here she sits, facing out of the garage. Why? Because...I rode her around the block. Not once, but twice! I got her up to third, going pretty easy, actually. She's a little soft on the bottom, but that's partially due to final drive gearing, the X-ed transmission (I think), and she needs tuning. The suspension is a little sproingy, and my, is she LOUD! She makes lots of intake roar and the mufflers, even with the baffles installed, make a nice bark. She sounds just like one of the classic twins from the period she's from. Oh, she shifted flawlessly, and the brakes worked beautifully, and she RUNS.
