Oh, Malcolm, I know that! I have been to the UK, twice, both times in February, and both times for two weeks. The weather was quite pleasant for the whole stay each time. I walked all over Central London, and never so much as needed an umbrella. I went to Cambridge, to Stonehenge, and all around - and it was just beautiful. I made it up to Edinburgh, and over to Ireland (Dublin, drove to Glendaloch), where it did rain, but it was much more a mist than a rain. It never did get terribly cold.

I just love the humor of Top Gear, and I love the ingenuity of Wheeler Dealers. Edd and Mike are cute as can be, too!

Top Gear is just plain Monty Python in cars - absolutely brilliant humor!

Just to show that it's not all wet and dreary in Blighty here are some pics from the Duxford (near Cambridge) airshow from last year. The people who restore those planes are just out of this world. The commentator said that you could get a decent P51 Mustang for around $2m. I'm saving up!.... But I might have to get a Spitfire first. :-)

Graham, the Spitfire is a gorgeous airplane! So is the Hurricane, and the Mosquito is quite lovely, too. What a beautiful day! I see the Lancaster was there, and flying. Very, very impressive!

I still haven't done any trouble shooting on the transmission. I'm betting the index was wrong on the kick start shaft when I installed that bolt to hold the shift shaft in place. I've got some things to try before I pull the clutch cover, starting with adjusting the clutch. I'll keep everyone informed.

Okay, the shift drum rotates smoothly. I easily found neutral, by hand rotating the drum. It snicks up into all the gears, and back down - all by turning the drum by hand. I really can't find anything wrong. Does anyone see anything in these photos that I don't?

I would try putting the shift linkage back on and trying to shift it while you watch it. You might have to support/hold the shift shaft as the cover is not supporting it now. Are you turning the actual drum by hand or pushing the fork forward and back to shift? Try pushing the fork to see if you have enough travel to shift.
