What a concept - A Girl Bringing Back Her 1966 Super Hawk
oil leakso were you able to pinpoint what went wrong? "O" ring, gasket, seal? or
all the above? Mike 66 CL77

Re: oil leakNo, not definitively. LM and I suspect "gasket". The torque values were all the same, I used the same O rings, three different knock pin sets, and did replace the washers on the outer studs - but the cap nuts were NOT bottoming! A mystery, but suspicious! My answer? Old motorcycle! 1965 CB77 305 Super Hawk

Graham and Chase, thank you!
I got the front wheel back from the bike shop today, new Heidenau (or what ever it is) tire mounted. The service manager said "Are you sure you want that little tire on that wheel? The tire we took off was much bigger." I said "The tire you took off was wrong, this one is OEM and looks great!" Oh - the rear wheel is still awaiting an inner tube. I'm going to put the wheels on the Old Girl on Saturday. The fenders can remain off for now. I want to see what I did wrong with the transmission before I go too much further. That makes a good excuse to ride her up and down the street, don't you think? I'm pretty sure the carburetors are going to need attention. The right one leaks fuel out of the overflow if I leave the petcock on. She spits and farts through the left one until she warms up a little, as well. Ignition is sorted, as is the timing, so it's not that. Then again, maybe she just needs to run a while! I'll cap off the tach drive until I get the proper seal for the cable. 1965 CB77 305 Super Hawk

I rolled her outside after getting the wheels mounted. It's a nice day, and thought I'd see what she looked like in the sun. I can't ride her, yet.
Here's how she looks right now. No, she's not done! I've left the saddle as it was, except it's been cleaned. The side covers have not been refurbished, yet (and I may not). The rear fender is still in need of paint (which is why it's not on the bike), the tank badges need to go on, the tach cable needs an O ring, the speedo cable needs to be installed, and the wheels need a really thorough cleaning. But she's so close!
