The new crank seal is installed. It went in with no fuss, it didn't argue with me at all. The starter gear seems to have a better and tighter fit in the new seal. My fingers are crossed that it doesn't leak!

While I was waiting on the seal I installed two brand new plug wires. I can't go wrong there (wanna bet?).

In the next few days I'll get the engine hung back on the frame and start it up.

I noticed when I was reinstalling the stator that one of the coils took a whack from something. Two of the wires are scuffed, but do not appear broken. I hope I don't have to replace that thing!

All these niggling problems I've been having make me wonder how these motorcycles were ever mass produced and ran! It's a miracle...

As long as the wires are not broken you will have no problem. .....lm

Me too. I worked for a short while in a car factory and had a tour of the new Triumph facility a few years ago. Although all the processes are well known it still seems a miracle that these things burst into life at the end...

I heard from a good friend that Honda set a time limit on the final stage of getting the bike to run. If it would not run within the time limit the complete machine was sold off to a salvage agent who was allowed to strip the machine down for parts but not sell a complete bike.

By assembling a bike out of 50 year old parts, you are already performing above the standards that Honda set for themselves...
