Photo of battery box layoutPhoto of battery box layoutI have a 1964 250 Dream and was wondering if anyone has a clear photo(s) of a correct battery box/toolbox layout and wiring setup? Not a wiring diagram or exploded parts view, which I have, but something I can use to clean up the mess underneath the left side cover.
I ask, since I recently acquired a toolbox shelf and I plan to install it once I know how everything is laid out. Currently the battery is installed with the battery terminals facing the frame, positive to rear, and I suspect that is wrong, but it came that way when I bought it and have been waiting until I got the toolbox shelf to re-do everything. You can see here how everything is laid out now, if it helps. Thanks
Battery Box?Why are you changing your battery box? It looks like everything would be fine if you just got the correct battery. Something we can't see?
Edit: OOPS. I guess I need to learn how to read...

Thanks for the photos, they help. If someone has a photo of the early style tool box tray, I would appreciate seeing that one for comparison to the later style. The toolbox tray I have gotten sure looks like the later style, although I was assured it was the early style.
I definitely have the early style, longer battery tray in my 1964 Dream. As you can see, I also have a later style battery (size-wise at least 5 1/4"x3"x5.5"), so even though it fits, it is not the correct one, and the terminals are backwards from what they should be. When I install this incorrect battery with negative toward front, the terminals wind up against the frame (or at least nearly). That's what had me corn-fused. BTW, if you want to use an AGM battery for your dream that has the terminals in the correct orientation, you can use a YTZ7S. There are several available and reasonably priced. No worries about venting and corrosion. Just put one in my 65 305. Has plenty of CCA to get the bike going. Slightly smaller than stock but still, a good fit IMO.
Here's an early one on ebay, even though Mr. Monkey Claw says its a late one. The overhang that holds the battery is just a little longer than the early one. I attached a picture of a battery that appears on ebay quite often and would be correct for your setup; here's the link:
