Sara,

There is a rubber dust seal the goes between the frame and the swing arm. Part 52145-268-000 which supersedes to 52145-329-000.

I just ordered the seals along with some other odds and ends.

I had a productive day. The fork sliders and center stand were painted. I stripped, filled and primered the front fender. I had to do some filling on it because someone had tried to remove some of the paint with a course grinder of some sort and left some pretty hefty scratches in the metal. I then cleaned up the t-stem, cleaned the bearing races, and cleaned up the steering damper assembly. Finally, I reassembled the front forks and partially assembled the shocks.

Some notes: Wiring the ignition switch is TEDIOUS. Don't drop the screws - a lot of time is wasted looking for them. The rectifier is just there to hold the harness in place. I have a regulator/rectifier to replace it with. The motor mount bolts are all left loose for now, on Jensey's advice, for mounting the exhaust system. I can't find the O rings for the carburetor flanges, nor can I find the O rings for the carburetor insulators. I've got to get a hose on the breather pretty quickly, while I can still reach it.

I've got to repaint the fork sliders. I must have been blind when I painted them, I didn't do a very good job. The same goes for the center stand.

The Duplicolor 0508 GM Silver is NOT an "exact match" for the Mist Grey. It's way too metallic! I have to redo the front fender, now.

Coming along!!

I went to the Mecum Auto Auction being held in Monterey for Historic Auto Week yesterday (Goodings and other auctions are in town, too, but I'm not well-heeled enough to grace those proceedings). That was fun! I wanted to get an idea what "restorations" really look like, and they're just spectacular. The detail, the paint work, the interiors, the detail...did I mention detail? After that, I went to work on the Old Girl again, with some renewed vigor.

I assembled the t-stem and top clamp to the frame (didn't a loose a single bearing). I used water proof grease on the bearings, and stuffed a lot of said grease into both races (without over doing it). I know the top clamp will have to come back off to install the headlight mounts and forks, but that's okay. The assembly turns left/right, right/left quite smoothly. I guessed on the "torque" for the top bolt thing, but it's easy enough to tighten later if I have to (or loosen).

I did more wiring (just plugging things together on the harness) and I found a place to mount the Podtronics regulator. I'll post a picture this evening, it's easier than trying to explain it.

Now that the front fender has dried, that DupliColor 0508 GM metallic silver actually looks pretty good. It's a bit on the dull side, but that's probably how the Cloud Silver painted parts looked, if my memory serves me correctly.

The post office managed to loose the dust seals I bought from ClassicHondaResoration yesterday, so I've got to trace that parcel down. Irritating! Now there's lost time, and this time around it's not my fault!

You know, if I had two full days, I could almost try to get the engine started!

Scary thought.....
