Another early morning (6am) ride -- my personal attempt to get a good ride in and beat the steamy Maryland heat (supposed to be 97 today!).
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, and there have been a variety of commemorative events happening there over the past week. I thought I'd do my part and ride on to Gettysburg to take in some of the battlefield and monuments (below is the State of Pennsylvania monument), as well as sampling the caffeinated offerings in town. Total mileage this morning was 166 miles, and the mercury was already touching the 90's by 10am. Don't think there's going to be any escape from the sticky heat until October! No, it's not a monument to the SuperHawk...... Gettysburg SuperHawk by Vince.Lupo, on Flickr

145 more miles under the belt this morning -- got a somewhat later start today (8:30), but there were a total of six of us (then five) in our convoy. Seemed to be Ducati vs Honda today -- and the feisty little SuperHawk led them all!
We did one of our usual routes, but then I somehow got us lost in Frederick, and we ended up in the nice little town of Thurmont, MD (on the way to Gettysburg, PA, off Rt. 15). Scott was a bit worried about my having gotten us lost, and I wondered to myself how far these guys would actually be willing to follow me (New York? Across the border into Ontario? Would my mother in Toronto mind if we all stopped by???). But it was all part of the grand plan (honest!), and all turned out fine in the end. After a hearty Thurmont breakfast, I wisely handed the reigns over to Andrew on his Ducati Monster. He guided us home safely and soundly! The collection -- Andrew's Monster, Jeff's CX500, and Robert McClintock's new Ducati -- what a beast! The bike I mean.... Great ride today up to the annual Nostalgia Run in Thurmont, MD. There were about 200 bikes in attendance, most of which participated in the Run. There were two routes offered (a 60 mile and and 80 mile), and I was the only one in our little group that went on either one of them (I did the 60 mile). The others chose to only ride up and peruse the selection of machinery on display. My total mileage for the day was just over 190 miles.
A photo of the group heading up to Thurmont -- Lee, Me, Andrew, Scott (Jeff is taking the picture, but his CX is in the shot): I'll post some of my photos in the 'Nostalgia Run' thread in the 'Events' section.

A bit of very shameless self-promotion: http://www.petrolicious.com/1966-honda-cb77-superhawk
Ah well - someone's gotta do it!
