Key and ignition code match, doesn't work

Post by Naguara24 » Sun Jun 23, 2013 11:41 am

I am brand new to the forum, so hopefully I am doing this right. I have a 1963 Honda Dream 305 that I just got. It didn't have a key, so I matched the ignition code and located a key (precut) with the same code. It fits into the ignition, but it still won't turn. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The code on the key and ignition is NA360. Thanks in advance!

Welcome,

I had this very problem when I ordered a key by ignition code online as well. I took the ignition to a local locksmith and was able to get one cut to fit. He informed me the key cut did not match the code on the key I had purchased. They happened to find a blank that worked and had to blow the dust off from it. You might order a blank to take with you just in case. You might try calling with just the code first, you might get lucky and not have to R&I the switch. I took it with me just to be sure.

Search for a reputable locksmith in your area that's been around a while and your chances will be better.

Not to knock anyone- but Hondakeys is where I ordered from. Shyt happens ya know? Sides the other key they sent me worked great. Just dumb luck.

HTH

Good Luck with it.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to try another key. And take it to a locksmith to see if he can cut a key for me. I did see that hondakeys shows that the NA code is for the 60-61 honda dreams, whereas mine is a 1963 "early" model. Should I be concerned about that? My ignition definitely reads NA360.

.....but the ignition switches are easily changed. Probably should check frame or engine number.
