vin numbers that match

Post by m wentz » Wed Sep 05, 2012 10:59 pm

I recently purchased a 1963 cb72 which I am having delivered to me later on this month. Being new to the older vintage honda's I have a question that I know the rest of the group can answer. I have read in many places that the numbers, chassis and engine should be close. This bike has identical frame and engine numbers. cb72-311282 and cb72-e311282. Do most bikes have close numbers or is the norm idenitical numbers. Thanks for the input. Mark

Rare to see matching #s. I've had one of about 40 of these bikes where the #s matched. Post some pics of the #s when you get the bike, and one of our experts can tell if one or the other is a restamp.

Davo, Thanks for the reply. When the bike gets here I will post some pictures. It was on Craigs List. After I purchased the bike it was removed. Frame # was on the steering head and engine on top of the upper case half. mark

Got the hiccups? :-) I'm right up the 101 from you, and some pics will be great when you get the bike!
