CA77 running rich $$
CA77 running rich $$Hey everyone, I am slowly restoring my '69 305 Dream. I have
Been working heavily with the carb and I don't have much experience With restorations. The carb was having an overflow issue but I boiled it and replaced all the jets and gaskets on te carb. That took care If that issue, but it is still running really rich. It seems to be taking in to much Air or gas and it's fowling up the plugs. Any suggestions on what my next step should be? After every crank I check the plugs and they are black with soot/oil.
Here is a short video of it running right after I had installed the rebuild carb.
side note: I still have yet to ride this bike. http://www.flickr.com/photos/deadbeathero/7934009774/ Soot = too much fuel
Oily = oil leak from rings/valve guides Soot = powdery deposit Oily = greasy deposit Yours looks like too much fuel to me from the pic What main jet/slow jet/float level are you using? Stock is 120/35/26.5mm, needle in middle groove, air screw out 1 to 1&1/2 If you got a Keyster kit, the jets are probably too big. Use the originals if you can, just clean them good. 66 dream, 78 cb750k, 02fz1, 09 wing
The float level should be set with the tab just touching BUT NOT DEPRESSING the small spring loaded plunger that sticks out from the float valve.
Also, make sure the float is not leaking and allowing gas to get inside. You can submerge it in hot water and look for bubbles. If you see any...it is leaking. The Keyster kit that I bought for mine came with a 130 main and 40 slow jet......way too rich. The originals should work much better. 66 dream, 78 cb750k, 02fz1, 09 wing
