Are you retaining the internal springs on the front suspension, or are you strictly using those black external springs?

When we initially did the external spring thing on my bike, we kept the original springs in the forks (we did, however, have new tubes made by Frank's Engineering) and found that it was way too stiff. So I think John had to modify the internal springs (set up some kind of a progressive thing inside) and it made things much better (kinda took the 'edge' off the front suspension). On the other hand, I think if you were only to use those external springs and not the internal springs as well, that might not be enough. You might have to fuss with it some to get the right combination that's comfortable for you.

Just something to keep in mind if you are having both internal and external springs with that front suspension.

There were no internal springs when I took them apart. These forks are from a '67, so I don't think they had those. The set I built for the '64 had them though, but the internals were a bit different?

Dunno actually -- don't forget, the musings that are originating from my little pea-brain are those of a non-mechanic! I just come up with the crazy ideas and pay for 'em.....

Might just be something to keep in mind in case there isn't enough 'springiness', however...I do like that external spring look though!

Cant wait to get her out in the sun and see what the gray looks like. Those springs are powdercoated gray like the rest.

Fired the bike up yesterday. Seemed to run ok. Just a question, is this forum dead? Or is my thread that boring? Just curious...

56, no its not boring. I've been following this topic all the way and I like the workmanship and your ideas on the different areas of the bike. I just don't comment all the time. Cliff
